SEPTEMBER 13-17, 2000
WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 13, 2000. Welcome aboard. Registration and hospitality begins at Noon at the Quality Inn 1902 North LaCrosse, Rapid City SD 57701. Come meet and greet new friends and old in our Hospitality Room. The location will be posted in the lobby. Those arriving early are welcome to assist in preparing materials.
THURSDAY, SEPT. 14, 2000, 9:00AM —Mt Rushmore, Custer State Park and Flying T Ranch. We board our busses and the trail leads to Mt Rushmore National Monument, the Shrine of Democracy where the faces of four presidents are carved in granite. A group photo will be taken in front of the Memorial. Each person on the tour will receive an 8X10 color photo of the Reunion Group. Then, it's on to a buffet lunch at the State Game Lodge, the summer White house of Calvin Coolidge in 1927. Following lunch, we tour through the Wildlife Loop Road in Custer State Park in search of buffalo and other free roaming animals. We return to the Quality Inn at 3:00pm. In the evening we depart at 6:00pm for the Flying T Ranch for a barbecue beef dinner and a western music show. We return to the Quality Inn at 8:30pm. The cost for the full day, including lunch and dinner is $70 per person.
FRIDAY, SEPT. 10, 1999, 9:00AM —Crazy Horse Memorial, Deadwood and Spearfish Canyon. We depart at nine and get underway for the Crazy Horse Memorial, the enormous mountain carving in progress dedicated to Native Americans. Then, it's on to the historic gold camp of Deadwood City which was home to Wild Bill and Calamity Jane where lunch is on your own. Legalized gambling has returned and you'll have time to play some games of chance if you want to. Our return trip will include a scenic drive through spectacular Spearfish Canyon. We will return to the Quality Inn at 4:30pm. The cost of this tour is $41 per person.
SATURDAY, SEPT. 16, 2000, 9:00AM ---Stav Kirke Chapel, Skyline Drive and Bear Country. A morning drive to Stav Kirk Chapel, a replica of a 800 yr. Old Norwegian church. Then on to a tour of Bear Country and a drive through of the wildlife park with a close-up view of elk, big horn sheep, wolves, mountain lions and bears...Oh my we will return to the Quality Inn at about noon to rest and relax. The cost of this tour is $28 per person.
SATURDAY, SEPT. 16, 2000 --Annual Business Meeting -USS Sproston Reunion Group The annual meeting will be held in the Hospitality room in the late afternoon. The agenda will include a Financial Report, the election of officers, selection of the site for the year 2001 Reunion and other business items as necessary.
SATURDAY, SEPT 16, 2000, 6:00 PM — Cocktail Hour, Photos, Dinner and Dancing. Time for fun, fellowship, food and dancing. As usual, we anticipate the Banquet will be a highlight of the Reunion. The Banquet will be held at the Quality Inn Rapid City. There will be a no host bar. There will be music from the 40's, 50's and 60's for your dancing and listening pleasure. The cost of the Banquet is $20. per person.
SUNDAY, SEPT. 17, 2000, 7:00 - 9:00AM — Complimentary Buffet Breakfast. The Reunion concludes with Sunday breakfast. We will have an opportunity to say farewell to our friends and shipmates until we meet again in the year 2001.
