REUNION GROUP REPORT

APRIL 2000

2000 REUNION—Rapid City, South Dakota

The Sproston Crew is headed for the hills. The Black Hills of South Dakota that is. Thanks to the efforts of our Chairpersons, Burt and Betty Alexander, the plans are all in place. A unique, interesting and fun itinerary has been planned. Enclosed is a Reunion Preview describing the tours, events and activities. Your Registration Form is also enclosed.

We strongly encourage you to register early. It really helps us if you send in your registration as soon as possible. In preparing for the reunion we have a significant amount of logistical work to do. It helps if we can complete registration information, tour lists and nametags in advance. As in the past, if you need to change your plans and cannot attend we will refund your money. Thanks...we appreciate your cooperation. As always, if you have any questions, comments or suggestions drop us a note, give us a call or send an email. Also, any assistance you can provide in publicizing the reunion would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks to the efforts of Al Fitz, the new web site is fully operational and new information is being added periodically. As the result of the web site we have heard from a number of Sproston Shipmates. As we did last year, we will be posting the names of reunion registrants on the Sproston web site. We will also post any update information concerning the Reunion. For those of you who have not visited the web site there are some interesting ship pictures as well as pictures of recent reunions. We have email addresses of over 100 shipmates. It's a great way to stay in touch and communicate with shipmates

COMMUNICATIONSThe following message was recently received from former Sproston XO, Rear Admiral Charles Horne (Ret.)

“What a great and memorable event our 1999 Sproston reunion in Charleston, SC was! What a great turnout of Sprostonites! Flora and I enjoyed meeting and talking with each of you. Of all the ship reunions we have been to – this Sproston 1999 reunion of so many Sproston sailors and their family and friends was the best! Each of you who attended added so much and made every moment, from Boone Hall to the Yorktown, to the dinner/dance at the Holiday Inn, a wonderful and memorable reunion. Flora and I encourage as many of our Sprostonites as possible to attend the 2000 Sproston reunion in Rapid City. A standard of excellence and fun has been set in Charleston that I am sure will be matched again in Rapid City

Warmest Regards, (s) Chuck Horne, XO of Sproston 1963-1965”

Thanks Admiral Horne for the message and kind words.
